This magazine is so well written, has beautiful photography and is most importantly, well researched. From 8 to 80, all ages will benefit from reading and studying its contents. Discover Magazine is a fantastic magazine if you are looking for in depth science articles. But beware; this is not for the light reader. If you want a magazine that treats you like you actually know something about science without explaining every little minor detail, this magazine is perfect. The breadth of coverage is also excellent. There is no realm of scientific research that this magazine leaves out. Overall, if you are looking for a serious science magazine, Discover is perfect.

I am constantly pleased and surprised by the scope and depth Discovery Magazine achieves without requiring the reader to have expertise in the subject. Their Einstein issue was largely written by respected competent scientists, some of whom actually knew Einstein. I had the pleasure of reporting to a mathematician friend who espouses Discrete Math, that Einstein, in his later years, confided to one of the Discovery essayists his conclusion that Discrete Mathematics was a better representation of reality than Continuous Math.
Also, I recently lent the Nov. issue of Discovery to a friend who had not seen any issues previously. I wanted her to read the excellent review of what we know about our relationship with microbes - both harmful and beneficial - and how antibiotics have disturbed that relationship. She is very pleased and excited with that and other articles, and has called more than once to discuss new ideas and new understandings she has found in the November issue. The other articles of most interest to Alice were The 10,000 year clock; the two astronomers who oppose the big-bang theory; and how dogs communicate with us - not bad for one issue.

Discover is by the same folks who bring us the Discovery Channel. It is a fun magazine with a nice broad range of categories and great information. The editors identify scientific trends (such as cloning) and helps to get a broad range of categories. It is a well put-together magazine. My family loves it!
